I have a mini zoo at home of pets which includes a white sulphur crested cockatoo, some chooks, doves, a couple of turtles, a rabbit and a guineapig, 2 cats and a dog. The birds which I feature with my cam streaming live inside in my office space in two very large cages. Here we can keep each other company when I work on my computer. They sing and whistle and talk to me, and I back to them. It can get very noisy and lively in this room at times! However it's all good fun!
In one cage lives Ollie, a Rainbow Red Collared Lorikeet and Rosie, an Australian Rosella (like the one which is the symbol featured on Arnott's biscuit tins and is an iconic Australian symbol).
Ollie is the cheeky one. He is the talker, the loudest of all the birds and the biggest attention seeker. He swings and jumps around doing his acrobatic stunts and has a great time! Other times he will crawl into one of his old biscuit tins, lie on his back maybe with a toy juggled with his feet and sing and talk quietly to himself, as if practising all the words he has heard during the day.
Rosie was found by my 11 year old son under a tree at the back of his Noni and Pop's place. She was a tiny little bird with mostly baby fluff and just a hint of feathers starting to grow in a few spots. We took her home and found that she would happily take food from a spoon. I knew then that she would probably live. We continued to spoon feed her until she could eventually eat on her own. Then she was ready to fend fo herself and move into the bigger cage with Ollie. Ofcourse there was an adjustment period as the two birds had to learn to tolerate each other. Now they are well used to being together.
In the other cage live 8 Lovebirds. Initially it started with a pair. Sadly one died and was replaced by another. Then the remaining original Lovebird died (that one is kept in a plastic bag in the freezer as I love to freak out my son's friends when they come to visit. They just think I'm sick! lol)
So once again another Lovebird was purchased to replace the dead one. They fell in love and had lots of baby Lovebirds. Mama bird was the best. She looked after her young so well, continually feeding them from her own beak as these parrots do. They all grew up into a healthy and happy family. I have recently intoduced a new Lovebird girl to the family in the hope that one of the boys would choose her and start a new line. So far nothing has happened! Time will tell......

NEWS ITEMS....
Today we were given a turtle by some friends. They didn't want their turtle anymore for reasons unknown to us. Anyway I'm sure this new turtle will be quite happy sharing a pond with the other two turtles, in the backyard under a nice leafy green tree and surrounded by basking rocks and other plants.
Today I went for a lovely drive through the hills with a friend and my big black labrador, Velvet. We went to a nice park with a sort of river going through it and had a nice walk around the place. Velvet was happy as a Larry running around all over the place,
swimming (she just loves that), and getting some much needed excercise.
Today I drove around the neighbourhood cutting off flowers from native Australian trees such as the Bottle Brush red flowers. These are to put into the cage with Ollie and Rosie. As Ollie is a nectar eating bird, with a specially designed tongue for licking nectar from flowers, I thought this would be a wonderful treat for them. The birds have been busy ever since I gave them the flowers, especially Ollie who is eating non stop and loving it.
OMG ! I just got home and found one of the Lovebirds lying on the bottom of the cage! It's the new Lovebird girl. The poor little critter is dying. She is barely breathing and her little eyes just flutter open a bit every now and then. I have taken off my furry vest and put her in it to keep her warm but I really don't think she will make it. The top of her head was red raw and a spot on the back of her neck also. Looks like the other birds have been pecking at her, pecked her to death almost! I hadn't even seen them do it before. Oh dear, this is so sad. I'll have to keep an eye on the poor girl. ....
.....The Lovebird girl died....She is as stiff as a mini ironing board....Shall I put her in the freezer bag with the other one?....My son says "No way!!!"....What do you think?
As you can see, I have added a few new pics. The stories about my pet cockatoo, Cocky, is something I could easily write a book about. I may even do that one day. But for our purposes here I shall keep it as short as possible. Generally Animals find me, with the exception of our Labrador and a couple of Lovebirds, they all find their way to me one way or another. And so it was with Cocky. I was driving along a country road in Tasmania where I had lived 20 odd years ago for a short period of 3 years. Across the road strolled a white sulphur crested cockatoo. I stopped the car so as not to hit her. She didn't fly away. Instead she happily greeted me with "Hello Cocky" and promptly jumped up onto my arm. I took her home and spent 2 weeks trying to find the owner of this lovely affectionate bird. Eventually I did. They hadn't even realised that she was gone! I was flabergasted. I asked if I could take care of her as they obviously had no interest themselves. They agreed quite readily. And so I became the owner of Cocky. I did try other names, but Cocky was what she knew and responded to, so the name stuck. Since then she travelled around with me until we resettled back in Adelaide. She is a fabulous creature. With the beak of a bolt cutter getting into all sorts of mischief such as chewing away entire window sills, she can be to the opposite extreme so gentle as to the point of picking mascara off my eyelashes! Amazing. My best story about Cocky is about my experiment when I gave her a fertilised chook egg to sit on. The exciting day came and Cocky had a baby Rhode Island Red cross Black Australoupe(?) chicken called Maurice. Incredible.
Snowflake (or Snow) is the white cat pictured in the gallery. He was found by myself about midnight driving home in the middle of a main road lined both sides by houses. He was a tiny kitten then about four years ago. It was just before Easter and quite a cold night. I felt so sorry for the poor little thing, so I took him home and gave him to my son as a surprise Easter present. Snowflake is extremely friendly and loveable with everyone. His only major problem is that he leaves lots of white hair on black clothes and wants to sit right in front of me when I'm on the computer and pesters me until I let him sit on the chair behind me which is very uncomfortable when you have to share it with a cat. Snow is happy then. LOL.
Snoddy, Sodz, Snoderama, Snoderism, Snods-a-lot, Snods-up-with-U, Snodder, Snoderella, Snoderiffic, Snoderer, Snodasleep, are just some of the names this blue-grey cat is called. Snoddy was dumped on our doorstep several years ago as the tiniest kittten ever. She could not even walk a straight line, only able to crawl about in a little circle. We took her in ofcourse. She was a bit of a wild cat for a few years only wanting to be patted when she felt like it and would then scratch or bite when she had had enough. However now she is older, she has mellowed heaps. Snodz is afraid of Velvet the Labrador who likes to chase her. Years ago she would have stood her ground and scratched the dog's eyes out, now she runs for cover. Poor Snoderistic!
I have posted a pic of one of my Turtles in the photo gallery. Its not a great pic because the Turtle would not keep still. He's not used to coming inside so he was busily checking everything out. I'll try to get another but better pic soon.
Velvet, our beautiful Labrador, is now much better after her injuries from being frightened on NY's Eve by loud fireworks noises and has recovered well.
All our other pets are doing well at the moment.
BirdChannel.com I recently found a great website to visit of interest to people who have pet birds: BirdChannel.com. I have my lorikeet Ollie featured on my page there. It's easy to make friends with people who have beautiful birds, all different types. We vote and chat with each other and all have the one best thing in common, we all love our birds. Great news today...... I made it to the Featured MyCams, New Mycams & Most Popular MyCams sections at EarthCam. Yahoooo!!!! Fantastic!!! I am sooo excited!!!!
Wow! How time flies! I find myself becoming older with every day, and just a tad more forgetful, or is that just because I'm blonde? Blonde jokes anyone?
My lovely white cat, Snow died 2 days ago. It was quite sudden, unexpected and reason unknown. He was only about 5 years old. I found the poor darling lying dead on the floor in the morning next to my computer chair which he always loved to sit on :(
RIP Dear Snowflake, you will be missed very much.
We will always remember you with LOVE xxx0xxx :)
Wishing you a very happy & safe Easter holiday period. Although don't just think holidays & chocolate easter eggs, try to remember the reason we have Easter and it's true meaning. Well there's my little speech for the day. Lol.
Here in Adelaide it's the lovely Autumn season, generally lovely warm sunny days and cool nights for good sleeping. I love the Autumn (or Fall as some of you call it) trees, the changing colors, red, orange, yellow, the leaves falling. It's the best season!
HAPPY EASTER !

Kookaburra song lyrics
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra! Laugh, Kookaburra!
Gay your life must be
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gum drops he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
Leave some there for me
Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Counting all the monkeys he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
That's not a monkey that's me
Kookaburra sits on a rusty nail
Gets a boo-boo in his tail
Cry, Kookaburra! Cry, kookaburra!
Oh how life can be

More NEWS......
.....Mimsy the guineapig went off to a new home and is very happy with her new family.
Velvet our beautiful labrador who is not pregnant is lactating heavily. A phantom pregnancy, I believe this is called. It is caused by hormonal changes. Well I guess now that Velvet is 3 1/2 years old, she is supposedly 'ripe for the picking' . Still no male labrador found to be able to mate with her. I really want Velvet to have a litter of puppies and keep one of them. Labradors are just the best dogs; so loyal, faithfull, loving, protective, intelligent, fun loving, playful, kid friendly, guest friendly and more. Velvet is the biggest lapdog in the world! All 50kg of her, lying across my lap when I sit on the lounge to watch TV. She loves swimming and fetching sticks thrown into the water. Great excercise for her. She sleeps at night with me on my bed, a huge immovable rock but does keep to her side!
All the birdies are well and happy. Ollie has learnt new words. The other day when I had a couple of lady friends visit me, I let out Ollie and Rosie for a play. Everyone including the birds enjoyed themselves immensely. Rosie had fun flying around and landing on our heads or on Velvet's back (much to her surprise, "ah a snack?" - No!). Ollie doesn't walk, she jumps and climbs, across the floor, up the lounge, up people's arms, onto their heads (gently scatching and picking at this wonderful nesting material!) A short session of the birds out of their cage was only meant to be about 15 minutes, but went on for a hilarious 2 hours of entertainment. Good value.
Velvet has a boyfriend! His name is De Niro and he's a lovely big dog of similar size and statue but is not a labrador, he is an American Staffy (not one for breeding with). Anyway, when my friend comes to visit me, she brings her dog to visit my dog. They have such a great time together doing what dogs do.
Great News!! Today I was actually given (FREE) a beautiful 2 year old brown, male, not desexed, labrador called Buddy. WOW FANTASTIC! I couldn't believe it, but yes it's true. The lady who owned the dog previously couldn't keep him any more and just wanted to find him a good home. My labrador Velvet went absolutely mental. They played and played and played for hours. Manic. I'm sure after a few days they will quieten down and get used to each other. I'm so happy that they do like each other so much. Buddy will become Velvet's new mate (Velvet's Buddy - VB - Aussie joke!) for breeding and they will have beautiful puppies one day. I'll take some photos as soon as possible and post them up here in my picture gallery. Please look out for them. Bye for now x0x0xW
We've just had a long weekend in Adealaide. Beautiful sunny weather 23 degrees. I spent every day with the dogs. They get on so well together. The new dog Buddy is lovely, gentle and completely trusting enjoying being closeby to myself or Velvet. We went for lots of walks through various parks, through the city. Velvet had a swim in a small lake, they played with their friend De Nero here at home and also at my friend's house. They had a great time. In between times they were treated with yummy meaty bones and a few dinner leftovers mixed in with their dry doggy biscuits. I made some marmalade citrus cup cakes and shared them with my friends. All in all an enjoyable weekend was had by all.
The birdies are great, all happy and healthy.
