The Rock of Gibraltar - Seen from Alcaidesa, Costa del Sol. A British Protectorate dominating the Strait of Gibraltar, which separates the continents of Africa and Europe. The Strait, 9 miles across, joins the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. The webcam is situated 10 km North East of Gibraltar at Alcaidesa, in Spain. On most nights, the line of lights seen to the left of the Rock are from towns on the North coast of Africa. At times, the visible absence of the Rock of Gibraltar is indicative of the funnelling effect of the weather between the continents of Africa and Europe, and is the best indicator of the weather conditions around the region. The wind direction is predominantly Westerly or Easterly.
